100+ felt craft ideas for you to try

In this post, I’ve collected the best felt craft ideas. I wanted to show you that felt is a very versatile material, and to inspire you to use it for your craft projects.

Felt is my favorite craft material. It’s a soft and cheap fabric, available in a large variety of stunning colors. It’s soft and warm, pleasant for the eyes and hands too. Felt is one of the best fabrics for beginners to start crafting.

Presumably, when you hear felt, you automatically think of kid’s crafts. Well, you are not wrong, since it’s easy to work with felt, a lot of kid’s projects use it. But felt is more versatile than that. You can use it for a wide range of home decor projects, accessories, everyday objects, holiday decorations, etc.

I used felt to make earrings, necklaces, purses, ornaments, flowers, coasters, wall art, a little box, bookmark, and I can’t wait to try other felt DIYs too. There is so much you can make out of felt.

It’s a fantastic material to work with because it doesn’t unravel out like other fibers crafts. Cut the shapes, and you are good to go.

I’ve collected these felt craft ideas to inspire and motivate you to try crafting with felt. Tons of free templates and tutorials are available that will make it easy for you to craft what you love.

I always “need” (want) new jewelry, even though I have a ton of them. I have to admit that I don’t also wear all of them. The good thing about handmade accessories is you can customize and adapt it to your wardrobe. And you will feel so proud that you could make those stunning earrings.

As you can see, felt is one of the most versatile craft material. It’s an excellent choice for beginners, kids, and advanced crafters to create something beautiful.

How to choose the best felt for your craft?

Four types of felt are available on the market: craft felt (synthetic), wool-blend felt (wool and other synthetic fibers), 100% wool felt (merino or other wool), and eco-felt.

Use craft felt for decoration, ornaments, and other objects that you won’t handle a lot. Synthetic felt is prone to pilling, and the fabric will distort if it’s touched often.

For wearable felt crafts use wool-blend felt or 100% wool felt.

How to clean and maintain your felt crafts?

Felt is a delicate fabric. Despite that, it’s possible to wash it, or even to machine wash it. Always use cold water, and a short, gentle cycle. If you handwash it, don’t rub the fabric, gently press it. Never use warm/hot water. Heat shrinks and distorts the material, and cause pilling.

To get rid of the dust, brush it with a soft brush or vacuum the surface of your craft. Keep the items away from moist places or direct sunlight.

What tools will I need for these crafts?

The essential tools you will need for crafting with felt are:

  • felt (soft or stiff, you can stiffen felt at home),
  • needle,
  • thread (I like to use pearl thread or embroidery floss),
  • or if you don’t want to sew it, you can use a glue gun or other fabric glue.

How to personalize felt crafts?

You can personalize your felt projects with embroidery, beads, appliques, and others.
